Day 3: The BIG Drive from Georgia to Ohio
The day started at 5am (OMG EW) and we left Sel's Mum's at 0630. The plan was to get on the road early to avoid any traffic snarls in the larger cities we'd be passing. We also planned on taking frequent breaks for pitstops and snacks, which I really appreciated.
It was lovely watching the sun rise as we travelled North in the morning. I thought Georgia would never end though, it just kept going and going! The approach to Atlanta reminded me of the start of the show, The Walking Dead, and that entertained me through the city traffic.
Tennessee was really pretty. I loved the change in landscape, with the emerging hills and trees getting more dense. It reminded me of NZ! Up in the hills we were driving through cloud, and there was some beautiful rock stratification on the side of the road. I would have loved to get out and examine it more closely, but y'know... its a busy road and, unlike on stream, I cant just pause to take a better shot or zoom in lol.
Kentucky was such a change on scenery, but still very pretty. Also, it's the home of the Horsey Racey Place, so that was fun! Thats a link to a Molly clip, for Project Zomboid, which is set in Louisville KY. We went through Lexington though, so I missed some good signs for it!
When we got to Ohio, we were all pretty tired. I loved seeing the skyline of Cincinnati emerge as we got closer. I also enjoy seeing cities from a distance, because you can see all the varying architecture and history! Crossing the river into the city was a relief, and I may have had a little cry. There was a pleasing contrast once we got further north into more agricultural land, where the greens became brighter with all the corn and soy(I think) in the fields we passed.
We arrived at Saty and Sel's place around 1915, and we were all relieved. We'd survived without incident, and Waffles had been such a good girl on the trip. I pretty much just scuttled off to the spare room and hid after a cursory tour and dinner. All of us were over stimulated from the last few days, and needed to defrag a bit.
Also... WTAF Florida?! The temperature here in Ohio is still in the 50s over night. I feel like Ive been ripped off with the summers down south. I think I may actually have done a little dance when I realised I could feel chilly again!
No idea what the plan is for today, but it'll be a lot less eventful hopefully!
